概要 The first reference to Shakespeare in print accuses him of writing 'bombast'. This lecture will explore what that word might mean, and whether this is any justice in the accusation, by tracking the developments in Shakespeare's style from his earliest to his latest writing.

概要 Robert Stagg and Jessica Chiba will head a discussion about Shakespeare in non-Anglophone cultures with a focus on the "worldly" nature of Shakespeare's style and the un-traslatability of his works. Specific topics will include Korean translations of Shakespeare, Japanese translations of Shakespeare's wordplay, Ninagawa's adaptations of Shakespeare, and the Iranian film adaptation of Hamlet, Doubt (2009).
